The unit is very clean and has always been in a non-smoking environment and this baby sounds absolutely superb with reserve power. THE TUNER SECTION: The major feature of the FM tuner section of the JVC RX-301 is the Locked system which detects ant difference in frequency between IF signal and the reference signal generated by the crystal oscillator. Another important feature of this equipment is the sensor circuit. When the searching, the locked circuit is deactivated, permitting the tuned frequency to be freely varied just as in conventional equipment. The FM uses the design principle of the 'phase lock loop' applied in the circuit. It has no inductances or capacitances which cause phase shifts and distortions. Any phase dislocation that might occur is automatically detected and compensated by a loop circuit. This results in an unprecedented high degree of stability irrespective of temperature or humidity changes.
