The wooden trim and a classic layout on the amplifier go nicely with the cherrywood speakers and the little amp's performance far exceeds that of most of the mini-amps that were common in the 1960's and 1970's. When combined with JVC's excellent Executive series mini-speakers, you end up with a compact system that looks retro-great and delivers remarkably decent sound for such small drivers.
The SA-100 amplifier performed well with many of the entry level speakers that Radio Shack and others offered. It is a fun amplifier to use with a number of small single driver speakers including Realistic Solo-1, Minimus 8, Solo-103 and JVC Executive Series. It does not have a preamp suitable for magnetic phono cartridges. We can provide compact outboard preamps that allow the use of magnetic cartridges for under $25.00. The SA-100 is equipped the a phono-tuner-tape selecor switch, volume, balance and tone controls, a stereo-mono switch, a power switch. a speaker on/off switch and a headphone jack. All inputs and speaker outputs are on RCA connectors. We supply speaker cables with the unit.
Many of the FSSD9 in our current stock have wood trim that is in better condition than the pair in our photographs. As compared to the JVC FSSD990, the FSSD9 offers a bit better performance by placing from a similar driver in a somewhat larger, less styled cylindical enclosure. The best performing Executive series speaker was the UX 7000 which places a high performance driver in a small more cubical enclosure --it is a true gem of a mini-speaker which has won great praise for for outstanding sonic quality. We list systems with these separately.
